Gave blood 244 times
Ratko Å antić (68) from Visegrad, whose grandfather Savo was brother of famous poet Aleksa Santic, holding unofficial Guinnius record – has gave blood 244 times.
Pensioner from Visegrad, Ratko Šantić, is probably the absolute champion in giving blood. This 68-year-oldy, even 244 times voluntarily gave blood, or about 75 liters.
“I have, that amount of kilograms,” said Ratko, born in Sarajevo which comes from the famous Mostar family from which is the poet Aleksa Santic.
This occasion Rajko Kuzmanovic, president of the Republic of Serbian, gave him the Order of Mercy Cross.
Ratko is true, because of advanced years, in 2005. stopped to give blood, but he was obtained in a number of awards this favorite. Got it for all what is a man and did humanist rescue his blood to dozens of life.
The first time he gave blood 17 years in Sarajevo, when his friend injured in the soccer game. Then he learned that he have “A positive” blood group. With providing continued during military service in Slavonia Pozega, and since then his humane gesture to the recurring every 3 months.
Most is, he says, provided valuable liquid to women in labor, in order to save life of those who just come to the world.
In several occasions, even 12 times, given the blood plasma.
“So I am giving frequent virtually every three months renewed my blood. Maybe so, I still record something. When my book of voluntary donors, full of seals, my health card is completely empty,” said Ratko, adding that his up at 6 o’clock, then he walks, drink coffee and breakfast.
Ratko’s rates are going, and his children, son Vladimir and daughter Mirjana, who is also a multiple blood donors.
