After receiving a brilliant Tumblr tip (submit your own!) from our new friend Jim that featured a fantastic Mariachi band cover of ‘Beat It,’ we knew we weren’t the only ones out there that were hungry for guacamole and MORE MARIACHI BAND COVERS. Can you blame us? There’s nothing more satisfying than hearing the upbeat tempo of a traditional Mariachi band playing… ‘Sweet Home Alabama,’ right?Right. So here are some Mariachi gems we’ve scoured the web to put on a loop at Urlesque HQ. Olé!
The performance that inspired it all (well, not other performances, but us putting this list together.) Anyways, a cover of Michael Jackson’s ‘Beat It’ is a fantastic celebration of the late performer, but the dinner guests singing along? Not so much.
Actually an ad for MTV, this amazing Mariachi cover of The Cranberries‘ ‘Zombie,’ will never let you hear the mid-90s anthem the same ever again. Sorry.
Nothing to watch here, but the fact that this Mariachi band did an entire cover album of Queen hits makes me feel all warm inside. Here’s ‘Another One Bites the Dust.’
Mariachis are usually slightly more southern than Lynyrd Skynyrd (read: Mexico) but some serious heart and soul is still in their cover of ‘Sweet Home Alabama.’
Another classic rock gets the Mariachi treatment, but I’m not entirely sure they’re capturing the spirit of this one.
Now here’s a genre MADE for Mariachi coverage: pop-punk. Blink 182‘s ‘What’s My Age Again?‘ makes my middle-school-self cringe a little.
And in the true spirit of Mariachis and their permanent bond with honeymooners, this band does an awfully sexy version of ‘Smooth Operator.’
